Accommodations bearing the Pets Can Stay Canada TM logo assure travellers that the establishment adheres to a set of consistent pet-friendly standards, criteria and guidelines. In addition to identifying Pets Can Stay CanadaTM certified accommodations, Pets Can Stay CanadaTM also provides travellers with access to a host of informational resources, ranging from methods of travel to pet etiquette, offering helpful tips and advice on travelling with your pet.
Utilizing on-site inspections, service upgrades and access to online resources, Pets Can Stay Canada TM works closely with accommodation providers to enrich the travelling experience of their pet-toting guests. Destination-based promotions and innovative marketing initiatives, developed via strategic partnerships with travel agencies and tourism organizations, provide registered establishments with effective means of targeting this rapidly growing market. Initially developed to certify and promote pet-friendly accommodations and housing within British Columbia, a pilot program was launched in September 2002. Identifying pet-friendly accommodations in The Pet DirectoryTM - British Columbia Edition 2003/2004 and in the Tourism BC Approved Accommodation Guide 2003, the program was remarkably well received by the hospitality, tourism and pet industries, registering nearly 300 British Columbia accommodation providers in a period of less than 8 weeks. Following overwhelming industry demand, the program's success led to the generation of a national program launch entitled Pets Can Stay CanadaTM.
