PCS NEWSFLASH: End of the Road for Pets on Cunard

Alas, it looks like the last bastion of cruise lines that welcome pets is  about to close its doors to pet-toting travellers. Cunard, which operates the QE2 and the QM2, has been the only major cruise line to accept pet guests on select Transatlantic voyages. Unfortunately, it appears that the pet-related obstacles that have beleaguered the other cruise lines (most notably quarantine issues for different ports and the challenge of accommodating pets with limited space for sleeping and relief areas) may have managed to overwhelm Cunard as well. A Cunard reservation agent recently disclosed to Pets Can Stay that Cunard will only be accepting pet guests on its remaining scheduled cruises until Nov 2005.

Quotes of the Month:

"Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you."
-Mary Bly

"
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog."
-Edward Hoagland "Dogs and the Tug of Life"

Pets Can Stay:  Assisting the traveller. Serving the industry.™

Travelling with pets has moved beyond a trend into a way of life for millions of North Americans. As the pet industry continues to demonstrate strong growth, and pet care product sales reach new highs, it comes as no surprise that many pet owners would prefer to bring their favourite companions with them on their trips.

Pets Can Stay is the national certification body for lodging establishments that accept pets, and we effectively bridge the gap between accommodation providers and pet-toting travellers in an effort to promote travelling with pets across North America. Pets Can Stay works closely with accommodation providers to develop and market their pet guest programs while providing full travel service booking and assistance to travellers with pets. For more information on the Pets Can Stay program, and how a property can become certified, please visit www.petscanstay.com.

The Benefits of Pet Health Insurance

Pet health insurance allows you peace of mind and the ability to provide your pet with appropriate medical attention for unexpected situations by sharing in the cost of your veterinary fees. It helps ensure that your pets will receive the medical attention they require by controlling and budgeting the cost of keeping your pet healthy.

With one in three pets requiring medical attention every year and the cost of veterinary care rising, pet health insurance just makes sense.

Most policies cover veterinary fees for the diagnosis and treatment of any accident, injury, or illness. The difference in cost from one plan to another is largely based upon the amount of accident and illness coverage the plan provides for your pet. Some plans will only cover select accidents, while others may cover your pet for any type of accident or illness.

Petplan would be happy to answer any questions you may have about pet health insurance. Visit their website at www.petplan.com or call 1.800.268.1169 to speak to a professional insurance representative.
